my own specialist area is Expressive Quirks, one of them is a phenomenon called verdinglichung, a special case of over-thing-ification, take a look at these pictures for more of an idea
You will see things that aren't part of the picture, your mind makes it up. This is re-ification similar to verdinglichung except with images instead of words. Mostly we don't notice this occuring as it happens just below the surface of our awareness.
The most profound example of verdinglichung affecting behaviour is the continuing myth of race.
Racial questions are always going to divide people and populations until the contexts we communicate fit with the differences experienced. If we keep talking of racial divides we keep the dream alive, the illusion that somehow we are made of different blood and bone, genetically not the same. We are alike and only separated by the changes of culture, environment and creed of our ancestors, more bonded by experience than any generation before us.
If you’ve lived in any black community you would feel it is more close-knitted than any white streets. More so than the middle-class pretence that doesn’t have the living-in-each-others-pockets reality that adversity brings.
Archaeology and genetics have shown there was little diversity in the birth of man, that we all came from the African Plains, I don't hold that up as fact but it's one of the few times science and the bible agree on anything. There is only one human race and only pettiness seperates.
